Yesterday’s word count: 500+
Today’s goal: 1000
I’ve spent a frustrating couple of hours this morning trying to take care of something that should have taken ten minutes, so I’m finally starting to settle down to writing in not the best mood. I’m hoping that the annoyed energy I’m bringing to it will help me be really, really mean to my characters. Today they get to suffer! With any luck, I’ll finally decide who lives and who dies.
I’ve got 12 days left to reach my goal and for the first time, I’m starting to worry that I might not make it. I need good writing days and no back-tracking. But at least the words continue to add up. My total word count right now is about 67,000–as long as my first book already.

Yes, go for it! *rubbing hands together gleefully*
As Stephen King once wrote: “kill your darlings, kill your darlings, even when it breaks your egocentric little scribbler’s heart, kill your darlings.”
NOTE: He’s not the originator of that saying, but I’ve always liked his emphatic interpretation of it. 😀

Ha, I don’t think he means torture your characters with that, though. I think kill your darlings refers to deleting the words that you find particularly perfect and enchanting.

I can’t wait to see what mean things you have done to your characters. Goddess Sarah meting out fate to her creations.

Well, for a hint, I did ask a friend whether killing my heroine for a second time would just seem repetitive. 🙂
