Nothing is what it seems

Fen’s life is on track—she works, she studies, she pays her rent—until a gorgeous guy points a gun at her and demands that she choose how she wants to die. What the hell? When a teenage boy, Luke, comes to her rescue, she survives, but escape won’t be so easy.

Luke’s sexy older brother, Kaio, offers to help her, but his protection simmers with unnerving undercurrents. The brothers have secrets and Fen has questions. Who are they? How did they find her? And why was she targeted for murder in the first place?

When Fen and Luke are forced to run for their lives, Luke spirits Fen down into an enchanting underwater city. But every enchantment has its dark edges. Caught in tides of romance, fear, and a plot to destroy humanity, Fen must look deep within herself to find the strength and courage she’ll need to stay afloat in an amazing new world.

Submerge yourself in the latest gripping novel from Sarah Wynde, author of the Tassamara series. You won’t want to come up for air before the final enthralling page of A Lonely Magic.

Warning: Fen swears. A lot. If you object to the f-word, her story might not be for you.

  1. Just finished the book and wrote a review on GoodReads and BookLikes. And on NetGalley, where I got the ARC. A delightful novel, such an interesting blend of mythological roots and modern fantasy, utterly original. Thanks, Sarah. Now I must wait for the next book. 🙁

    • Thanks for the review, Olga! I didn’t intend it to be cliffhanger-y, but Malik refused to die. He was supposed to. Beginning to end, full circle, her death becomes his death. But he… well, didn’t want to die, I guess!

  2. No, I can see an interesting twist of the story ahead – her saving his sorry ass. Lots of new adventures on the horizon, I guess.

  3. I just finished – beginning to end in less than 48 hours. Hooked. I really enjoyed a new venue and I loved Fen’s aliens mistake. I have a sneaking feeling that Malik is going to make it hard, but I like him.

Thank you so much! I’m sorry it took me so long to see your comment, but I’m glad you enjoyed the book. I like Malik, too. For some reason, I started picturing him as Jensen Eckles (from Supernatural) and after that he sort of took on a life of his own!

Wow! What a great, great story! I love how you develop characters and give me people to love….as well as people I love to hate. This new world you have created is amazing. I am so looking forward to the next chapter in Fen’s world.

Thank you so much, Debbie! I am sorry I didn’t see this comment for several days, but I so appreciate the encouragement!

  5. Hello, Sarah! It’s about 3:00 Am here in Montana, and I just finished “A Lonely Magic.” Now, as stated at the end of this book, you appreciated constructive criticism reviews. Fortunately/unfortunately, I have none of that. As with Your “Gift of…” books, I just could NOT put this one down. I loved the first series, and desperately hope you will continue with them, if it’s to be so, or hopefully continue the “Lonely Magic” and make it into a series, which I hope you do! Jeez I hope I’m making sense. It’s really late and I have to be up in about 5 hours to go to work! I loved this book because it was full of humor through out, adventure, red herring or two, plot twists.. all the makings of an excellent book. You made Fen’s character very realistic and “human,” but she also evolved and grew as the story went on..and she grew a pair of… courage during the time of greatest fears, and doubts. Pretty cool! Also pretty cool was the fact that you didn’t put Fen into an instant relationship with Kaio or Luken, but left it “for another day.” Seriously, though. Your books are very well thought out, well written, and leaves the future up for grabs. I love Fen’s independence! Ok, I feel like I’m babbling now, so off to bed I go. Look forward to the next books to download on my Nook (but I also like the feel of a good paperback too!) and can’t wait to stay up reading again until wee hours of the morning! (I get that from my mom) Thanks again!
    Forever your book worm,
    Barbie W.

So glad you enjoyed it, Barbie, and thanks for telling me so! I’m going to keep writing in both worlds. I’ve got lots of plans for Tassamara–Grace’s story and Akira’s honeymoon and more with Maggie and Max and lots more coming for Fen, too. I wish I could write faster, but I’ve got plenty of ideas to keep me going!

  6. Hi Sarah, I’m just wondering if I can use the picture from this blog post about A Lonely Magic to accompany my review on my wordpress blog? Many Thanks

Hi Sarah! I discovered your book “A Gift of Ghosts” a month ago when I got it from Amazon on my tablet. I went to see if my library had the rest of the books in the series. They didn’t but they decided to order them for me. I read all the Tassamara books and loved them! I just finished reading A Lonely Magic and loved that one too. I saw that it came out in 2014 so now I’m wondering when the next book will be out. I didn’t see anything on your website about it. Can you let me know or post an update on it?

    Thanks for great stories!

    • Thanks for your question! I’m going to resume working on the sequel to A Lonely Magic (called A Precarious Balance) as soon as I finish A Gift of Grace, which is the book I’ve been working on for forever and a day. I thought Grace would take me six months or so, but instead it’s been two years and counting. A lot of that was life getting in the way, as it does, but it’s been a challenging book. I think I’m in the homeward stretch, though, so I’m hoping to get back to APB in early 2017 and definitely hoping to finish it before the end of the year.

Thank you so much for asking your library to carry my books! It makes me so happy to know that a library patron might stumble across them and enjoy them.

      Best wishes,
      Sarah

Loved this book, it’s been out for some time….are you putting out more on this story line?

    • Yep, I’m working on the sequel now! Sorry it’s been so long, but my last book took me forever and I got very stubborn about it. I’m hoping this one takes me less time!
